Once Upon a Time in Mexico
/Mexico City also known as Ciudad de Mexico (CDMX) is one of the most enjoyable destinations in the world. A city that tells so much history and at the same time serves as one of the most important financial hubs in Latin America.
Day One in CDMX
I began exploring the city around the Plaza de la Constitución, the massive main square also known as the Zócalo where you can see the huge Mexican Flag standing proudly in the middle. It used to be the main ceremonial center in the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan prior to the colonial period. Most of the time it is extremely populated since it is such a popular destination for tourist, and also for the locals because it’s where they hold a lot of their events.
CDMX is famous for its cuisine and has some of the most exquisite restaurants around the area of Condesa and Reforma/Zona Rosa. But as we all know, we all have our favorite and my go to restaurant when in Mexico is Azul Histórico located on Isabel La Católica 30. As you can see, the atmosphere inside can be ideal for a date but it is also a common business meeting destination, or happy hour if you want to call it, because of the gorgeous terrace they have on the second floor. This is where I got a great view of the backed up 5pm traffic in Mexico City and let me tell you, I was very fortunate to be on foot!
“Birthplace of the Gods”
The day after, I took a ride northeast of Mexico City to the ancient Mesoamerican city of Teotihuacán, also known as the “Birthplace of the Gods.” It was truly something amazing. I cannot explain the scenery and the atmosphere from being in the city. You could almost feel like you were living at the time of the Aztecs. Running down the middle of the site, as you can see from my panoramic shot, is the Avenue of the Dead. It links the Temple of Quetzalcoatl, the Pyramid of the Moon, and the Pyramid of the Sun (Shown). I certainly recommend hiring a travel guide on site that can go in depth and explain the meaning of each individual structure. It will give you a better understanding of this astonishing culture and the events that went on years and years ago.
I truly hope you guys enjoyed my visual diary of CDMX and will consider this city your next travel destination! A city with many attractions, very kind people, and all for a great price.
